With the consistent growth of the young rap group, it wasn’t a shock to see them in the nomination list for Discovery of the Year in the Ghana Gospel Music Awards 2012. Preachers, with no doubt have been the fastest emerging rap group in the gospel music industry. Their breakthrough song titled “Go Hard” brought a new phase to the gospel music scene since it appeared to be the only mainstream gospel rap song with a high quality video.
The night started with Preachers performing live as curtain opener for the Ghana Gospel Music Awards. At the time the Discovery of the Year nominees were being mentioned, the young rap group was backstage cooling off. This category included award winning artists like Joe Mettle, Eugene Zuta, Skulfuo and others, so Preachers did not anticipate to win this Award. To their astonishment, the presenter of the award, Azigizar Junior, former hiplife superstar opened up the envelop and announced the winner as PREACHERS. Preachers run from their cooling off session as quickly as they could and picked up the award panting. They gave their shout outs shedding tears of Joy.
Speaking to Preachers, they said “God has been too good to us, we take this award as a motivation to go harder of Christ and we pray that it inspires young and upcoming gospel rap artists who have been discouraged by people. This is the day that Gospel Rap won their first national award”
